The volcano sits right on the road. You drive into it, not hike to it.

This full-day tour from your hotel covers St Lucia's west coast and ends in Soufriere, the island's most distinctive stop. You visit Diamond Falls Botanical Gardens and the Sulphur Springs Park drive-in volcano, choose between a guided tour or mud bath soak, hike the Tet Paul Nature Trail for views of the Pitons, and finish with a swim or drink at a waterfall or beach. Hotel pickup and drop-off, a private driver-guide, and beverages are included. Lunch is on your own.

The experience

The day starts with pickup from your hotel in a private vehicle. Your guide gives a historical overview from a viewpoint above Castries, then drives you through banana plantations and two fishing villages on the way south. You'll see British barracks from the 1800s and have the chance to sample fresh fruit straight from the plantation if you want it.

Once in Soufriere, you spend time at Diamond Falls Botanical Gardens and Waterfall, then move to Sulphur Springs Park: the Caribbean's only drive-in volcano. You choose whether to take a guided tour of the volcanic site or soak in the natural mud baths. Lunch follows at a local restaurant where you can try St Lucia's regional dishes.

The Tet Paul Scenic Trail comes next, a nature walk that opens onto views of the Pitons. You wrap up with a swim at one of the waterfalls, a beach dip, or a drink at the water's edge in Marigot Bay, depending on what appeals to you that day. The whole tour runs five to six hours from start to finish.
