The experience
The tour picks you up from Colombo or Negombo airport or your hotel and heads inland to Dambulla Cave Temple, the country's largest preserved cave temple complex filled with statues and frescoes. In the evening you climb Sigiriya Rock Fortress, a UNESCO World Heritage site, or Pidurangala Rock, then overnight in Sigiriya. Day two takes you on safari in Minneriya National Park, where wildlife moves through open grassland, followed by a visit to the ancient royal city of Polonnaruwa before returning to Sigiriya.
Day three moves you toward the central highlands through Kandy, where you visit a Hindu temple and can add a spice garden tour if you choose. The Temple of the Sacred Tooth Relic, a Buddhist shrine beside a lake, is optional. You overnight in Nuwara-Eliya in the cool tea hills. The next morning you catch a scenic train from Nanuoya station to Ella, a mountain town where day five includes a tuk-tuk city tour, a hike to Ella Rock to see the famous bridge, and a climb to Little Adam's Peak. On day six you travel south toward Mirissa, stopping briefly at a waterfall, and settle into a beachside hotel. The final day covers stilt fishing (locally called Ritipanna), a short visit to Galle Fort on the southwest coast, and stops at the Tsunami Museum and Ariyapala Mask Museum in Ambalangoda before finishing at the Kosgoda Sea Turtle Conservation Project and returning to your hotel in Colombo, Negombo or the airport.
Your private car stays with you throughout, air-conditioned and fully insured. Hotel accommodation includes breakfast each morning. The driver is a local who speaks English and knows the route. Because the itinerary is customizable, you can skip optional stops like the spice garden or the Temple of the Sacred Tooth Relic, or adjust the pace to match your interests in temples, wildlife, hiking or beach time.

Is this one for you?The 7-day length lets you move slowly enough to see both the ancient sites inland and the southern beaches without rushing, and the private car means you set the pace at each stop. If you have less time, the 3-day or 5-day versions cover the same route in condensed form. If you want to linger longer in one region or add more wildlife time, you can book by the day and build your own itinerary.

What is Sigiriya Rock Fortress and why do we climb it on the first evening?
Sigiriya Rock Fortress is a UNESCO World Heritage site: an ancient palace built on top of a massive rock column in central Sri Lanka. Climbing it in the evening gives you views across the landscape as light fades, and overnight in Sigiriya puts you in position for the next day's wildlife safari in Minneriya National Park nearby.

Day two is dedicated to Minneriya National Park safari, where you travel by vehicle through open grassland to watch elephants, water buffalo, deer and birds. The tour balances culture, nature and wildlife, so you can customize which stops matter most to you. Add more wildlife time or skip optional temples if you prefer.
How does the train journey from Nuwara-Eliya to Ella work?
On day four you catch a scenic train from Nanuoya Train Station to Ella, a mountain town in the tea-growing region. The train ride itself is part of the experience, passing through tea plantations and hill country. Your driver meets you in Ella and continues with you for the rest of the tour.
What happens on the last day, and when do I get back to Colombo or the airport?
The final day starts with stilt fishing (Ritipanna), a traditional fishing method on the south coast, then moves to Galle Fort, a 17th-century fortification on the southwest coast. You also visit the Kosgoda Sea Turtle Conservation Project and can stop at the Tsunami Museum and Ariyapala Mask Museum in Ambalangoda. The tour ends with a drop-off at your hotel in Colombo, Negombo or the airport.
