The Experience

The tour leaves from the main railway station, a landmark of Valencian Art Nouveau built in 1987. From there the tuk tuk moves through the old town, passing the Quart Towers and Serranos Towers—two of the three surviving gates of Valencia's medieval wall—and the IVAM modern art museum. You stop at each one to step out and photograph, and the guide explains what you're looking at. The route also takes in the Museum of Fine Arts of Valencia, one of Spain's leading painting museums, and the Palau de la Música, an auditorium built in the old riverbed of the Turia in 1987.

The second half of the tour moves toward the water and the modern city. You pass the Marina Real and the port, then reach one of Valencia's main urban beaches. The City of Arts and Sciences—the architectural complex designed by Santiago Calatrava—gets its own stop; the tuk tuk lets you out to walk the grounds and photograph the buildings. The route also includes the Valencia Bullring, a neoclassical structure inspired by Roman amphitheaters, and a palace housing the National Museum of Ceramics, an example of Rococo architecture with an alabaster marble façade. Throughout, you can ask the driver to stop whenever you want a better angle or more time at a landmark.

A bilingual guide (English or Spanish) travels with you and provides a city map at the start. The tuk tuk is open-air, so you're not separated from the streets and the light; children from age one can ride, though infants under two are not permitted for safety reasons. Service animals are allowed on board. The whole route takes approximately two hours, though the stops mean the actual time on the road is shorter.
