The Experience

The tour starts at the Serranos Towers, built between 1392 and 1398 and still standing after more than 600 years as one of Valencia's best-preserved medieval gates. From there the tuktuk moves through the old city, stopping at the Columbus Market—a modernist building from 1916 now declared a national monument—and the Valencia Cathedral, where the guide explains the layers of construction and the chapel holding what the city claims is the Holy Grail. The route also passes the Silk Exchange, an emblematic building that has stood in the heart of the old quarter for over five centuries, and the Central Market, the largest supply plaza in Europe at over 8,000 square meters, where the guide can point out the stalls and explain the Mediterranean ingredients that define the region's food.

Your guide is from Valencia and knows the city beyond what's written in guidebooks. Beyond the monuments, they can recommend where to eat, which museums are worth your time, where to shop and what the nightlife looks like in different neighborhoods. The tuktuk itself has audio equipment, so if you want to listen to your own music while you ride, you can. A cold soda is included, and the pace is set for a private group—no other tourists sharing the tuktuk or the guide's attention.

The tour runs about an hour and covers the main medieval and market landmarks of the old city. Public transportation is available nearby if you need to get to the starting point, and the route is suitable for all fitness levels since most of the day is spent in the tuktuk; you'll walk only when you stop at each site.

Top questions

What are the Serranos Towers and why do they matter in Valencia?

The Serranos Towers are one of two fortified medieval gates still standing from Valencia's old city wall, built between 1392 and 1398. They consist of two semi-cylindrical towers joined by a central body with a pointed-arch doorway and are among the best-preserved monuments in the city, having watched over Valencia for more than 600 years.

Does the tour go inside the Valencia Cathedral?

The tour stops at the Valencia Cathedral, where the guide explains its history and the chapel of the Holy Chalice inside. The guide can tell you about the cathedral's layered construction and the religious significance of the chalice, though the tour's structure focuses on the exterior and key interior features rather than a full self-guided walk through the building.

What is the Central Market and why is it on this tour?

The Central Market is the largest supply plaza in Europe at over 8,000 square meters, located in the heart of the old city. It's on the BBC's list of the most beautiful markets in the world and serves as a place where the guide can show you the colors, smells and stalls of the Mediterranean diet and explain the commercial tradition that has occupied this site since Valencia's Muslim period.

Can I bring children on this private tuktuk tour?

Children are welcome from age 4 on the tour. Since most of the time is spent riding in the tuktuk and the stops are at outdoor monuments and markets, younger children can participate, though the pace and the guide's explanations are geared toward visitors who can walk and listen at each site.

What languages does the guide speak?

The guide speaks English, Spanish, Italian, French and two additional languages, so you can book in the language you're most comfortable with.

How long is the tour and can I fit other activities into my afternoon?

The tour runs about one hour, which means you can fit it into a morning or afternoon and still have time for lunch, a museum visit or exploring a neighborhood on your own before or after.
