The Experience
The tour picks you up from your hotel in either the north (Puerto de la Cruz area) or the south of Tenerife, then heads into Teide National Park. On the way, you'll pass through Vilaflor, one of Spain's highest villages, and stop to see the Chiñero volcano lava fields—the most recent eruption here was in 1906. The drive itself moves through the otherworldly volcanic landscape that makes this region a UNESCO World Heritage site.
At Los Roques de García, you take a walk around the famous rock formations with views of Mount Teide and the basin where the land sank below the cone during the eruption. From there, the route continues to Icod de los Viños to see the dragon tree in Drago Park—a tree over 3,000 years old standing in the rustic village plaza. Then comes Garachico, Tenerife's original port until a 1706 volcanic eruption destroyed it; you'll have time to walk the town center or sit in the plaza. The final stop is Masca, a tiny hamlet hidden in the folds of western Tenerife, built into a gorge with views down to Los Gigantes cliffs. This is where the day ends, and it's the kind of place a community built to stay hidden from the rest of the island.
Your guide speaks English, Spanish, Italian, French and one additional language, and travels with you in an air-conditioned vehicle the whole day. The itinerary can shift depending on weather or road conditions—Masca, for example, closes in August due to fire risk. Bring walking shoes, warm clothes and water; the elevation and terrain mean you'll want to be prepared. Lunch is your choice: eat at a recommended restaurant along the route or bring your own and find a spot to sit.
What’s included
- Local multilingual guide in English, Spanish, Italian, French and one additional language.
- hotel pickup and drop-off from either northern or southern Tenerife.
- air-conditioned vehicle for the full day.

Is this one for you?Choose the northern pickup (Puerto de la Cruz) if you want to start in La Orotava Valley, or the southern pickup if you prefer to begin at Vilaflor—both routes converge at Teide National Park and end in Masca, so the choice is about where your hotel sits and which villages you pass through on the way up.

What is Los Roques de García and what do you do there?
Los Roques de García is a formation of famous rock outcrops inside Teide National Park where you take a walk with views of Mount Teide volcano and the basin that sank during the eruption. The walk gives you a close look at the volcanic geology and the scale of the park.
How old is the dragon tree in Icod de los Viños?
The dragon tree in Drago Park is over 3,000 years old. It stands in the rustic village plaza of Icod de los Viños, and the village itself has a typical church and traditional layout.
What happened to Garachico and why is it on this tour?
Garachico was Tenerife's original first port until a volcanic eruption destroyed it in 1706. The tour stops there so you can walk the town center or sit in the plaza and see how the village rebuilt itself after the eruption.
Can I choose where to eat lunch on this tour?
Yes. You can eat at a recommended restaurant along the route, or bring your own lunch and find a place to sit—there are many spots to stop and eat throughout the day.
Does the tour pick up from cruise ships or rural villages?
No. The tour picks up from hotels only, either in the Puerto de la Cruz area in the north or from the south of Tenerife. Pickup reconfirmation is required when you book, and your hotel name or area is needed to locate your closest pickup point.
What should I bring on this tour?
Walking shoes, warm clothes and water are strongly recommended. The elevation in Teide National Park and the terrain around the rock formations mean you'll be more comfortable prepared for both cooler temperatures and the sun.
