The experience

You start with pickup from your hotel in southern Tenerife and arrive at Teide National Park for a safety briefing and introduction to the quads before the ride begins. The terrain shifts as you climb: volcanic cones rise around you, lava formations cut across the landscape, and the air thins as the elevation climbs. Your guide leads the way through the park's winding trails, pointing out the geology and the scale of Mount Teide itself, and stops regularly so you can catch your breath, take photos and absorb the lunar-like surroundings.

The quads are automatic, which means you focus on steering and throttle rather than managing gears as you navigate the uphill sections. A valid driver's license is required to ride, and the maximum combined weight for two passengers is 160 kg. The landscape here is not green. It is volcanic rock, ash and sparse vegetation, with hundreds of cones and craters visible across the park. Weather changes daily in the mountains, so check the forecast in the morning. Rain or snow can occur even when the south coast is warm.
