The experience

The day starts at Camí de la Escollera in front of Palma's Cathedral around 9:15 a.m., where you board a luxury air-conditioned bus for the drive to Soller. The town sits three kilometers from the coast in a valley surrounded by mountains, known locally as el valle de Los Naranjos, the valley of orange trees, and the main square is ringed by cobbled streets and the Church of San Bartolomé. The guide rides with you and speaks your language throughout.

Once in Soller, you board the wooden tram for the journey down to the Port of Soller. The tram preserves its original aesthetics and decoration. It was the first electric tram line in Mallorca, built after the rail line opened to carry both passengers and goods to the port. The port itself is a natural harbor on the northwest coast, and the tram ride down lets you see the connection between the town and the water: the orange blossom scent mixing with sea air as you move through the landscape. You have time to walk the port's promenade before the return journey.

The train takes you back from Soller toward Palma, stopping at Bunyola before you transfer to the bus for the final leg to your hotel. The whole excursion runs about five hours.
