The experience
The Carved Cova sits on the cliffs between Dénia and Jávea, reachable by land or sea, but the kayak approach is what lets you see it whole: the cave mouth, the rock formations, the water inside. You paddle a two-seater self-emptying kayak with a backrest, so if water splashes in, it drains on its own. Your guide-instructor sits with you and handles the route. The paddle takes you along the Alicante coast to the cave entrance, where you can steer inside and look at the history carved into the stone.
Once you're at the cave, you switch to snorkeling gear (mask, tube, helmet), and slip into the water to see the same formations from below, surrounded by fish and the turquoise marine environment. The guide stays with you the whole time. A watertight pot keeps your phone, keys and wallet dry while you're in the water. Three hours covers the paddle, the cave exploration, and the snorkel time, with no rush.
Photos and videos of the activity are included, so you don't have to hold a camera while you're paddling or underwater. Bring a light snack and enough water for the morning or afternoon. The activity itself provides none. Children from age ten can join. The guide speaks English, Spanish or French depending on your group.
