Kayaking Cala Granadella: Llop Marí Cave & coastal cliffs

Kayak through Cala Granadella in Alicante for 2.5 hours, starting with instruction for beginners and paddling past Morro de Pino to reach the Llop Marí Cave, where sea lions once sheltered centuries ago. The route continues to Cala Ambolo and Isla del Descubridor before returning to the starting beach. A guide leads the route in English, Spanish or French. Children from age 5 are welcome. Arrive 30–40 minutes early to prepare the kayak and receive safety briefing.

The experience

You start in Cala Granadella itself, where the guide gives a quick safety rundown and instruction on paddling technique: refresher for experienced kayakers, full lesson for anyone new to it. Once you're fitted with a double kayak, backrest, paddle, life vest and snorkeling gear, you push off toward Morro de Pino and then into Cala En Caló, a small sheltered beach where most groups make a first stop to settle into the rhythm.

The route then follows the cliff line toward the Llop Marí Cave, a dark tunnel carved into the rock where sea lions once lived centuries ago. You paddle inside to look around, then continue along the coast to Isla del Descubridor and Punta del Ambolo Tower. Cala Ambolo, a second quiet cove, is the last stop before the paddle back to Cala Granadella. The whole outing runs 2.5 hours on the water. Snorkeling equipment is included if you want to look below the surface during stops.

Parking at Cala Granadella costs 9 euros per day and fills up by mid-morning. If it's full, a 25–30 minute walk from overflow parking is the alternative. A tourist train from La Guardia Park runs hourly for 5 euros (2.50 for children) and takes about 15 minutes. Photos of the activity are included. You bring a light snack and enough water, as food and drink are not part of the package. Insurance covers accidents and liability.
