The tour starts near the statue of architect Aníbal González, who designed the plaza in the distinctive Regionalist style that showcases local decorative ceramics and echoes Seville's historic architecture. From there, you make your way all around the vast semicircular site, allowing you to admire its craftsmanship from a variety of perspectives. The audio guide walks you through the plaza's creation and the stories embedded in its design.

The heart of the experience is the decorative tiled panels — one for each Spanish province — that line the plaza's alcoves and tiled alcoves. Each panel captures a pivotal moment that shaped the nation: the struggles between Christian and Muslim kingdoms in the Middle Ages, the Spanish War of Independence, and the path to modern Spain. You examine them at your own pace, stopping as long as you want at the ones that catch your attention. The central canal and sweeping semicircular structure frame the whole thing, and the plaza sits within Maria Luisa Park, Seville's lush city park filled with shaded paths, fountains and ornamental gardens.
