- Explore solera and criaderas system
- See American oak casks and cellars
- Discover grape varieties and aging
- Participate in guided wine tasting
The experience
The Álvaro Domecq cellars hold American oak casks stacked in the traditional solera system, where younger wines rest on top of older ones and gradually move down through the rows as they age. You'll walk through these storage areas and see how Fino, Oloroso, and Jerez D.O. vinegar develop their character over years. The guide explains the region's grape varieties and the production methods that make Jerez wines distinct: how the climate, the chalk soil, and the aging process work together to build flavor.
The tour ends with a guided tasting where you sample what the winery produces. Your selection depends on which option you choose at checkout: a standard tasting of three Sherries (Fino La Janda, Oloroso Alburejo, Cream Aranda), a broader selection of four wines plus vermouth, a premium V.O.R.S. flight of reserves aged 30 years or more, or brandies paired with chocolates. The guide walks you through each pour, explaining what you're tasting and why the aging matters.
The experience lasts 90 minutes total. A live guide leads in English or Spanish, and children from age 1 can attend: infants sit on an adult's lap. Public transportation runs nearby if you need it, and service animals are welcome.
