The experience

The tour starts with a local guide walking you through Jerez's oldest quarters. You'll see the Alcázar's 12th-century Almohad walls, the Cathedral's mix of Gothic and Baroque styles, and the Plaza del Arroyo: one of the largest squares inside the Islamic city walls. The guide points out the Bertemati and Conde de Puertohermoso palaces, the Mudejar church of San Dionisio, and the Alameda Vieja, a green space that once surrounded the fortress. The route covers the city's layers: Islamic foundations, Renaissance additions, and later Neoclassical rebuilds, all visible in the same blocks.

After the city walk, you head to one of Jerez's historic wineries. A short film explains the region's brandy and wine history, then you board a train that runs through the vineyard itself. The winery visit centers on the criaderas and soleras system: the stacked wooden barrels where Sherry ages and develops its character over years. You walk among century-old warehouses and see how the wines move between levels as they mature. The tasting follows: three selected Sherry wines, each one chosen to show the range the region produces.

The winery has a shop where you can buy bottles to take home. Wheelchair access is available throughout both the city tour and the winery. If you're traveling with children, they can join from age 5 onward. Infants can ride in a stroller. Note that from January through March, the winery portion runs in Spanish only, though the city tour itself may be split between English and Spanish depending on the group.

Yes. Ticket types: Child (5 to 11 years). Children under 5 can't be included in the booking.

What exactly is the criaderas and soleras system I'll see at the winery?

The criaderas and soleras system is the method Jerez wineries use to age and blend Sherry. Wines sit in wooden barrels stacked in tiers.
