Step outside Granada for a day packed with canyoning thrills—rappels, jumps, swims—all guided by locals who know Lentegi inside out. No experience needed; just bring your sense of adventure.
The air felt cooler as we left Granada behind—windows down, the faint scent of wild herbs drifting in from the hills. Our guide, Javier, chatted about local legends while we wound our way up narrow roads toward Lentegi. After a quick stop for coffee at a roadside bar (the kind with faded plastic chairs and strong espresso), we reached the trailhead. Helmets on, harnesses checked—nerves buzzing just a little.
The first ten minutes were just walking, boots crunching over loose stones. Then suddenly, the canyon opened up below us—layers of rock shaped by years of water and wind. The sound of running water echoed off the walls. We started with a gentle rappel; my hands shook at first but Javier’s calm voice made it easy to trust the rope. There were bigger drops too—one was nearly 27 meters—and I’ll admit my legs wobbled before stepping back over the edge. But you get used to it fast.
Between abseils, there were spots to jump or slide into deep pools (totally optional if you’re not feeling brave). The water was cold enough to wake you up but not freezing—just enough to make you laugh out loud when you hit it. At one point, a local goat herd passed above us—the bells echoing down into the canyon. By midday, sunlight filtered through the rocks and warmed our backs as we snacked on fruit and biscuits by the riverbank.
The last stretch was calmer—a slow walk out past wild rosemary bushes and sun-bleached stones. We had time to dry off and swap stories before heading back to Granada in the van, tired but grinning. If you’re looking for real adventure close to Granada—and want someone who knows every twist of this canyon—this trip is worth every minute.
