Climb 300 meters up a mountain face, secured by steel cable the whole way.

A half-day via ferrata and zip line activity in Gran Canaria where you climb a 70-meter wall using metal staples, chains, steps and cable bridges, equipped with helmet, harness and anchor lines secured to a steel cable at all times. The route covers 300 meters of vertical climbing with different challenge levels built in. After reaching the top, you zip line down and walk back to the parking lot. A live guide in English or Spanish leads groups of no more than twelve; the activity includes all climbing gear, accident insurance, photos, and a fruit picnic with water and snacks.

The Experience

Gran Canaria's via ferrata starts at a meeting point where your guide fits you with a helmet, harness and anchor line. The route itself is a 70-meter wall rigged with metal staples, steps, chains and cable bridges—the kind of setup that makes vertical climbing accessible even if you've never done it before. You stay clipped to a steel cable the entire time, so the security is constant; the challenge comes from the route itself, which is designed with surprises and different difficulty levels built into the 300 meters you'll cover going up.

The climbing takes you higher as you move through caves and across cable bridges, each section adding to the vertical gain. Once you reach the top of the mountain, the view opens up—this is where the bird's eye perspective the operator mentions becomes real. Then comes the zip line descent, which covers the distance you just climbed in seconds. After landing, a short 15-minute walk brings everyone back down to the parking lot together.

Your guide carries a camera and takes photos throughout the activity, which are included. The picnic—fruit, water, cookies and nuts—happens after you're back down, and it gives you time to catch your breath and talk through what you just did. The whole outing runs about four hours from start to finish. Pickup is included, and the guide speaks English or Spanish depending on your group's preference.

Is this one for you?The climb demands a moderate level of physical fitness and a steady head for heights—you're on a 70-meter wall the whole time, though the steel cable and metal handholds keep you secure. This is the entry point into vertical climbing, not a technical mountaineering expedition, so if you want to try climbing without years of training, this is built for that.

Top questions

What does the via ferrata route actually feel like when you're on the wall?

The via ferrata is a vertical hiking route secured by a steel cable at all times. You move up using metal staples, steps, chains and cable bridges attached to the rock face, so you're always clipped in and supported. The 70-meter height and 300-meter route length mean you're climbing steadily, but the metal elements make it more accessible than free climbing—it's designed as a good entry point into vertical climbing.

Do I need climbing experience or special fitness to do this?

No prior climbing experience is required. You do need at least a moderate level of physical fitness, since you're climbing 70 meters vertically over a 300-meter route. The operator notes that everyone can do it, but vertigo (fear of heights) would make this difficult, so be honest with yourself about that before booking.

What happens after I reach the top of the mountain?

After climbing to the top, you zip line back down. The zip line covers the distance you just climbed in seconds, which is why the operator calls it "flying." Once you land, there's a short 15-minute walk back to the parking lot, and then the group shares a fruit picnic with water, cookies and nuts.

What's included in the price, and what do I need to bring?

The activity includes all climbing gear—helmet, harness, anchor lines—plus accident insurance, a live guide in English or Spanish, photos taken during the activity, and a fruit picnic with water and snacks. You don't need to bring climbing equipment. Wear clothes you can move in and closed-toe shoes with good grip.

How long does the whole activity take, and when do I get picked up?

The activity runs about four hours total, including the climb, zip line, walk down and picnic. Pickup is included, so your guide will arrange that with you when you book. The minimum age is 12 years old.
