The guide teaches you the techniques, then you climb it yourself.

A via ferrata climbing workshop in Gran Canaria designed for first-time climbers, where a professional guide teaches you the skills and supervises your ascent on an iron-step route adapted to all levels. You meet at a mountain base, hike 30 minutes through desert landscape, learn climbing technique, then climb under guidance before relaxing on the secret beach at Bahia Feliz. Available in morning or sunset departures; four hours total, includes harness, helmet, kit, snacks and insurance.

The Experience

What makes this different from watching someone else climb is that you're the one on the wall. You meet your guide at the base, get fitted with harness, helmet and via ferrata kit, then hike 30 minutes across the rocky desert landscape of southern Gran Canaria. Your guide talks through the terrain and how it formed as you walk — not filler, but the kind of detail that makes the landscape make sense when you're standing in it. By the time you reach the climbing point, you've already learned how to read the ground.

The route itself is built with iron steps that take the guesswork out of foothold placement, which is why it works for beginners. Your guide walks you through the equipment and climbing technique before you start, then stays with you the whole way up, offering support and catching anything before it becomes a problem. The real point isn't just getting to the top — it's that after this workshop, you know how to do it again. The guide teaches you the method so you can apply it to other climbs later, not just this one route.

After you climb, the day doesn't end with a car ride back. You head to Bahia Feliz, a beach most visitors don't find, and you get to sit there and let your muscles settle while the desert and the water are both in front of you. The whole thing runs four hours. Morning climbs start early and finish before the heat peaks; sunset climbs let you climb in the cooler air and watch the light change over the water afterward.

Is this one for you?The climbing itself takes real effort and steady focus for the full route, so come ready to work your arms and legs and to concentrate on foothold and handholds for a couple of hours. The guide handles the safety and teaches the technique, but you're the one doing the climbing — if you want to watch someone else climb instead, this isn't the right choice.

Top questions

Can I do a via ferrata in Gran Canaria if I've never climbed before?

Yes — this route is designed for all levels from beginners to experienced climbers. The iron steps built into the route make it manageable for first-timers, and your guide stays with you the entire time, teaching you technique as you go and handling the safety setup.

What's the difference between the morning and sunset climbing options?

The morning climb starts early and finishes before the heat builds, so you're climbing in cooler conditions. The sunset version means you climb in the evening air and watch the light change as you finish, then head to the beach while it's still light.

How long does the whole experience take?

Four hours total, including the 30-minute hike to the climbing point, the climbing itself, technique instruction and setup time. You finish with time to spend on the beach at Bahia Feliz before heading back.

What equipment do I need to bring, and what's provided?

You bring comfortable hiking clothes and shoes; the guide provides harness, helmet, via ferrata kit, and all climbing gear. Snacks are included, and you're covered by insurance for the activity.

What will the guide actually teach me?

The guide teaches you climbing technique and how to use the equipment safely before you start climbing. The goal is that you leave knowing how to do this on your own — the skills transfer to other climbs you might do later, not just this route.

Where do I meet the guide, and how do I get there?

You meet at the mountain base in southern Gran Canaria. Contact the operator by WhatsApp or email to confirm the exact meeting point and to arrange any transport if needed.
