The experience
The day starts with a briefing at the dive center or on the beach, where your instructor walks you through how the equipment works and how to set it up. Because the group stays at three people or fewer, the guide has time to move at your pace: explaining and showing each exercise slowly, and adjusting if something does not click the first time. You then get in the water for practice exercises to build comfort with the gear before moving to the actual dive.
Once you are ready, you dive the reef with your instructor, watching fish and exploring the sea life around the island. You can choose a morning or an afternoon slot, which gives you flexibility to fit the rest of your day around it. Private transportation is included, so you do not arrange the ride to the center.
One thing to know: you cannot fly within 12 hours after diving, so plan your departure day accordingly. The activity requires at least moderate fitness, and it is not suitable for travelers with spinal injuries, cardiovascular concerns, or pregnancy. Children as young as 10 can join.
