The Experience

The day starts with a pickup from Girona and a drive to the coast. Your first stop is the lighthouse at Sant Sebastià in Llafranc, where you stand above the Mediterranean and see the full curve of the Costa Brava. From there you walk along a coastal path between Calella and Llafranc, staying close to the water and passing the grand Indiano Houses—mansions built by merchants who made fortunes in the Americas and returned to build here. The walk is on an established trail, not a scramble, and the views open up as you move between the two villages.

After the coast comes Begur, a village built around a sixteenth-century castle. You walk up to the castle ruins and the defensive towers that once protected against pirate raids, and from the top you see the entire coastline spread out below. The village itself is small and built on steep streets, so the walking is steady but not extreme. Then you move inland to Pals, a medieval quarter called El Pedró where the streets narrow between old stone buildings. You see the Tower of the Hours, remnants of the castle, and the Church of Sant Peter—the architecture is genuine medieval, not reconstructed, and the guide explains what you're standing in front of. Peratallada comes next, another walled village with a castle, old fortifications and a moat still visible around the perimeter.

The tour ends with a stop in La Bisbal d'Empordà, a town known for pottery and ceramics, where you can browse local shops before heading back to Girona.
