The Experience

Most visitors to Besalú arrive expecting a quiet medieval town and leave realizing they've walked through centuries of Spain's hidden religious history. The 105-meter bridge that greets you first — 30 meters high, one of the most photographed in Catalonia — is just the entrance. Once you cross it, the cobbled streets of the old Jewish quarter open up, and that's where the audio guide becomes less a tour and more a conversation with the place itself. You're not following a group or a clock; you're moving through Pont Vell, Abat Oliva, and Rocafort streets on your own terms, stopping when something catches you.
