The Experience
Met up outside Hotel Colon—easy spot to find, right across from the cathedral. Mike was already there, camera in hand and a grin that put us at ease straight away. The air had that faint coffee smell drifting from the corner café, and you could hear street musicians warming up nearby. No crowds or lines—just us wandering through those narrow stone lanes, laughing at ourselves as Mike cracked jokes and snapped away.
I’m not usually into having my photo taken, but this didn’t feel awkward or staged. Mike gave us little prompts (“walk towards me like you’re late for tapas!”), so we ended up with shots that actually look like us—nothing stiff or cheesy. He knew all these tucked-away corners where the light hit just right, and we never once had to wait for tourists to move out of the way. Even my partner (who hates photos) was relaxed by the end.
The whole thing took about an hour, but it flew by. We got a link to our gallery later that day—over 100 shots, plus 25 edited ones ready for Instagram or whatever. Mike even sent us his favorite local spots for vermouth and churros after the shoot. Honestly, it felt more like hanging out with a friend who happens to be really good with a camera.
