The experience

“Stand right here: trust me, the light does something special,” our photographer grinned, waving us into a patch of sun just outside Barcelona Cathedral. I didn’t expect to feel so… visible? But somehow he made it easy, cracking jokes about my lopsided scarf and showing us how to lean against the old stone without looking stiff. The square buzzed with locals weaving past on bikes and a couple of kids chasing pigeons: honestly, I forgot we were even being photographed for a minute.

We wandered through El Born next, dodging a delivery guy singing softly in Catalan and the spicy smell of coffee drifting from an open café window. Our guide pointed out graffiti tucked behind vintage shops (“That one’s new, I think it popped up last week”), then stopped at the Mural of the Kiss. I tried to pronounce its real name, Li laughed when I butchered it, and we all ended up in a giggle fit. It felt less like posing, more like hanging out with someone who knows every shortcut in these winding alleys.

Plaça del Rei was quieter than I expected. Just a few people sitting on the steps, talking low. The air felt cooler there, almost echoey between those old palace walls. Our photographer had us walk slowly across the plaza while he snapped away. I still think about that moment when everything went silent except for our footsteps and distant church bells. We finished near the Bishop’s Bridge, where he told us a half-true legend about secret meetings (I’m still not sure if he made that up).
