The experience

You get picked up from your hotel in an air-conditioned vehicle with a guide who speaks English and knows both routes inside out. The Seoul itinerary starts at Gyeongbokgung Palace, the largest of Seoul's five royal palaces, then climbs the Bukak Skyway: a mountain drive that passes the Blue House, the presidential residence, and opens onto a view of the city's north side. The skyway itself marks a Cold War moment: in 1968, North Korean spies infiltrated through this same route. From there, the guide takes you to Gilsangsa, a temple most foreign visitors miss, before lunch at an authentic Korean restaurant.

The afternoon splits between two neighborhoods. Insadong sits between two palaces and evolved from a flea market where Seoul's upper class once sold valuable items. Now it's lined with galleries, tea houses, and antique shops. Iksundong, nearby, has the same character. You finish at N-Seoul Tower by cable car, riding up to see the city from above and exploring the streets below. The whole Seoul route runs 7 to 8 hours.
