The experience
Seogwipo sits at the base of Jeju's volcanic landscape, and this tour moves through the island's geological and cultural heart. You start at Saryeoni Forest Trail, a cedar-thick woodland where the drama "Secret Garden" was filmed, then move to Stone Culture Park: a museum and outdoor space showing how Jeju people built their lives around volcanic stone. The park closes Mondays, so the driver will confirm your visit fits the schedule. From there, you reach Sangumburi Crater, a 100-meter-deep volcanic bowl formed roughly 63,000 years ago when underground gas explosions created a sunken cone. Unlike other craters on Jeju, Sangumburi holds no water. It drains through basalt layers beneath the crater floor. This type of formation, called a maar, is rare worldwide.
Seongsan Ilchulbong Peak, a World Natural Heritage Site, takes about 30 minutes to climb from the ticket office. The 182-meter peak was formed when lava erupted from the seabed, and its outer shell carries 99 stone pillars that resemble a crown. If climbing is difficult, you can walk the left shore instead. A haenyeo (female diver) performance happens daily at 2pm near the base, though it may be canceled without notice due to the performers' schedule. You'll also walk through Seongeup Folk Village, where traditional thatched houses still stand and stone-wall alleys show how Jeju people lived. Jeongbang Waterfall, the only waterfall in Asia that falls directly into the sea, closes the route. The rocks underfoot are uneven, so footing requires care, but the sight of water meeting ocean is distinctive to Jeju.
The driver has arranged pickup from your hotel or Jeju airport at no extra charge and will drop you at your accommodation when the tour ends. Lunch is discussed with you during the day so it fits your pace. If you want to visit other sites (Manjanggul Lava Cave, O'Sulloc Tea Museum, Yongmeori Coast or any other spot), the driver can add or swap them in. The vehicle is air-conditioned, and all admission fees and fuel are covered. Infants sit on an adult's lap. The tour is not suitable for travelers with spinal injuries, poor cardiovascular health or pregnancy, and requires a high level of physical fitness because of walking and climbing.
