The experience
Jukdo Fish Market anchors the morning: roughly 1,500 stalls spread across a renovated space that kept its local character while upgrading the facilities. The market is known for gochujang mulhoe (Pohang's signature raw fish dish without broth, mixed with fresh vegetables and sesame oil), and for jeonbok porridge made with whole abalone. Winter brings gwamegi, dried fish that is a regional specialty. You walk through the market at your own pace, stopping to eat or browse. The guide navigates the layout and explains what you are seeing.
Guryongpo Japanese House Street preserves the alleys where Japanese residents lived over a century ago, their homes still standing intact. The stone steps climb to a hilltop park built by Japanese settlers, where a shrine called Yongwangdang once stood: a place where they prayed for sailors' safety. The monuments and records were later covered with cement and turned over by Korean patriots. The narrow lanes themselves became a filming location for the K-drama "Eyes of Dawn," and walking them feels like stepping into a preserved moment. From there, the tour moves to the Igari Anchor Observatory, a 10-meter-high structure shaped like a ship's anchor that stretches 102 meters along the coast and offers a panoramic view of Igari Beach and the sea.
The day ends at Homigot Sunrise Park, located on the easternmost tip of the Korean Peninsula: a coastal park famous as one of Korea's best spots to watch the first sunrise of the year. You also pass Yeongildae Beach, known for its Yeongildae Pavilion, a traditional Korean pavilion built over the sea and the only one of its kind in the country, and see the Space Walk sculpture, a looping form designed to evoke the experience of floating through space. A roomy Hyundai Palisade handles the route, with fuel and parking covered. The guide drives and stays with you throughout the eight hours.
