The experience

What makes this tour work is that one person drives and guides the whole day, so there's no switching vehicles or waiting for a separate guide to arrive. The licensed guide speaks English, Korean or Chinese depending on your group. You're not on a fixed schedule with other travelers. The route is yours to adjust if you want to linger at a stop or skip one entirely. The comfortable private vehicle handles all the driving, and fuel and parking are covered in the price.

Hahoe Folk Village is the centerpiece: a UNESCO site where the Ryu family has lived together for 600 years, and where you may see the Andong Hahoe Village Mask Dance (Byeolsingut Talnori), a traditional Korean performance using wooden movable-jaw masks to satirize social elites and pray for village peace, though it's seasonal and not guaranteed. The Folk Museum shows the region's history through exhibits on local customs, weddings, funerals and traditional games. Byeongsan Seowon is a Confucian academy founded in 1575 that educated generations of scholars and survived the 1868 abolition of most seowon institutions. Bongjeongsa Temple holds the oldest wooden building in Korea, discovered during roof repairs in 2000 with inscriptions confirming its late Goryeo Dynasty origins.

The day also includes the Andong Traditional Market, where small shops and food stalls sell local specialties and street food (Andong Jjimdak is especially famous here), and Wolyeonggyo Bridge, a sculpture commemorating a couple's love story. Admission fees to the attractions are separate from the tour price. Lunch is not included, though the market is a natural place to eat.
