The experience
This is a fully customizable tour, which means you're not locked into a fixed schedule or a preset list of stops. You arrive at your Busan hotel and the guide picks you up in a private air-conditioned vehicle, then you decide together which attractions matter most to you. Bulguksa Temple holds seven national treasures and was designated a UNESCO World Cultural Heritage Site in 1995; Daereungwon Tomb Complex contains a gold crown and other artifacts from the 5th and 6th centuries; Cheomseongdae Observatory, built during Queen Seondeok's reign (632–647), is the oldest astronomical observatory in Asia. The guide knows the history and can explain what you're looking at, but the time you spend at each place is yours to set.
Hwangridan-gil is a street lined with traditional hanok buildings now housing restaurants, cafes and shops: a good spot for lunch on your own, or the guide can recommend authentic local restaurants where you can try Gyeongju's traditional dishes. Donggung Palace and Wolji Pond are secondary palace sites where the prince lived and banquets were held. Gyochon Village is another traditional hanok neighborhood offering a glimpse of Joseon-period life. Yangdong Folk Village, Korea's largest traditional village, is optional and adds time to the tour. It holds approximately 160 old houses, fifty-four of them over 200 years old, and has been designated a cultural heritage site in its entirety. Woljeonggyo Bridge, rebuilt in 2018, is now the largest wooden bridge in Korea and dates originally to the Unified Silla period.
The vehicle and guide are included. You pay only for admission fees to the sites you choose and for your meals. With 9 hours available, most travelers comfortably fit four to six attractions into the day. If you're departing from or being dropped in the Gyeongju area itself, the service time is 8 hours instead.
