Visit Tongdosa Temple and Eonyang Bulgogi

  • Have lunch with Eonyang bulgogi
  • Return to Busan from Eonyang

The experience

Tongdosa temple sits about 50 minutes from Busan by car, built during the Silla kingdom and designated UNESCO heritage in 2018. What sets it apart is that it enshrines the Sarira of Sakyamuni Buddha (the reason all Korean monks train here), and the temple's age shows in every pavilion and stone path as you walk through grounds surrounded by mountains and a stream. Your guide will walk you through the site and explain what you're seeing.

After the temple, you head to Eonyang, a small town an hour from Busan that exists almost entirely for its bulgogi. Unlike bulgogi elsewhere in Korea, Eonyang's version is dry and grilled over charcoal at your table. Lunch happens at one of the town's most famous restaurants, so expect a wait, but that's the trade-off for eating what locals call the country's best. You'll get 180g of beef per person.

Your guide speaks English or Chinese and meets you at your hotel or cruise terminal before the tour starts. The whole experience (temple, lunch, the drive back) runs four to five hours, leaving your afternoon or evening free.
