The experience

Gyeongju opens the first day as the ancient capital of the Shilla Kingdom, Korea's oldest unified state. You'll visit Bulguksa Temple, the most famous Buddhist temple in Korea, and climb to Seokguram Grotto, a hermitage carved into the mountainside with views toward the East Sea. Both are UNESCO World Heritage sites together. The Gyeongju National Museum holds about 3,000 relics from the Shilla era, including King Seongdeok's Bell, a National Treasure. Cheonmachong, the Heavenly Horse Tomb, rounds out the day: an ancient royal burial mound named for a painting of a celestial horse discovered during its 1973 excavation.

Day two shifts to Andong, the heart of Joseon Dynasty Confucian culture. Andong Hahoe Folk Village is a UNESCO site where descendants of the Pungsan Ryu clan still live in preserved traditional houses, offering a window into how people actually lived centuries ago. The Andong Folk Museum displays everyday objects and cultural ceremonies that shaped Joseon life. You'll also visit a traditional soju distillery and herb museum, where you can taste Andong soju and learn how Korea's oldest liquor and medicinal herbs were made.

The final day centers on Haeinsa Temple, one of Korea's Three Jewel Temples, set on Gaya Mountain. It's most notable as the home of the Goryeo Daejanggyeong, an ancient Buddhist scripture collection that is itself a UNESCO heritage. Before heading back toward Busan, you'll walk through a herb museum and spend time at Seomun Market, one of Korea's largest and liveliest markets, where you can browse local foods, textiles and crafts. Your private minivan and guide handle all transport and navigation across the three regions.
