The experience

Ninety minutes on the water means you're tasting oysters and learning their story without losing half your day. The boat heads out to the Knysna Heads, the dramatic rock formations that mark the lagoon's mouth, and you're asking questions and taking photos the whole way. A live English-speaking guide walks you through the difference between wild oysters pulled from the lagoon and cultivated ones farmed in controlled conditions. The taste is noticeably different, and you'll taste both. The crew shucks them fresh on board.

Complimentary local white wine, soft drinks and water come with the ticket. Half a dozen oysters are included for tasting. If you want more oysters to eat on the boat, you can pre-order them before you go. The group stays small, so there's room to move around, ask the guide questions, and actually hear the answers over the engine noise. Infants and small children can travel in a pram or stroller, and specialized infant seats are available if you need one.
