The Experience

We were already rolling through Muizenberg when I realized how early it was — streets mostly empty except for a couple surfers shrugging into wetsuits. Our guide, Ray, had this way of making it feel like we were just out with a friend who happened to know every shortcut and story about the Cape Peninsula. He pointed out old railway cottages painted in faded pastels, and I swear you could still smell last night’s sea breeze hanging over Kalk Bay. We stopped for coffee at some tiny spot where the owner greeted Ray by name — apparently he comes here a lot. The cinnamon buns were still warm.

I didn’t expect to get so close to the seals lounging near the harbor (they’re bigger than you think). Lunch was in Simon’s Town, fish and chips with too much vinegar while navy officers strolled by in crisp uniforms. On Chapman's Peak Drive heading back to Cape Town, the light got all gold and slanty over the cliffs — everyone went quiet for a bit.
