Climb frozen waterfalls in three sections of Mlačca gorge, from beginner ice to steep 40-metre routes

Ice climbing in Mlačca gorge in Mojstrana, a village in Triglav National Park near Bled, where you climb frozen waterfalls on routes between 20 and 40 metres high. The gorge is divided into three sections: the left part suits beginners with 10 different routes; the middle section is a 90-degree incline for experienced climbers; the right part offers routes for both levels. A guide, technical equipment and hotel pickup from Kranjska Gora, Mojstrana or Bled are included. The activity runs four hours and welcomes climbers from age 10.

The Experience

Mlačca gorge opens for ice climbing after the Christmas holidays end on January 2nd, when the entire gorge becomes available for climbing. During the holiday period itself, only the central and right sections are accessible in the mornings, since part of the gorge stages a live nativity play. Once the season is fully open, you choose which section matches your level: the left part climbs 20 to 30 metres with 10 beginner-friendly routes, the middle section rises at a 90-degree angle to around 40 metres for climbers with prior experience, and the right part offers five routes suited to both beginners and advanced climbers.

The activity includes all technical equipment, entrance to the gorge, a guide and transfers from your accommodation in Kranjska Gora, Mojstrana or Bled. Four hours on the ice means you spend the bulk of the day climbing rather than traveling. The guide speaks English, Spanish or Croatian, so you can book in whichever language suits you.
