Bled Rafting: Class II-III Whitewater on the Sava Dolinka
Three hours on the Sava Dolinka: rapids, Alpine views, and a guide who knows the river
Bled Rafting is a whitewater activity on the Sava Dolinka river near Bled, Slovenia, where you navigate class II-III rapids (easy to intermediate difficulty) with a professional guide, equipment and hotel pickup included. The trip runs about 3 hours total with roughly 1.5 hours of actual rafting time. Minimum age is 3; children under 12 need an adult in the boat. At least 4 participants are required for a departure, though in high season (June through August) trips run multiple times daily.
The Experience
About 3 hours is what the whole trip takes — pickup at your accommodation in Bled, the drive to the river, the 1.5 hours on the water, and return transport back. The Sava Dolinka sits close enough to Bled that you're not spending half the day in a van, but far enough that the river still feels like an escape. You're navigating class II-III whitewater, which means easy to intermediate rapids: nothing that demands prior experience, but enough current and rock to keep it interesting. The guide is a professional with swift water rescue certification, so safety is built in from the start.
What makes this different from sitting in a tour bus is that you're the one holding the paddle. The guide handles the technical calls and keeps the boat moving right, but you're working the river itself — reading the current, timing your strokes, feeling the weight of the water. On hot summer days this is probably the most direct way to cool off in Bled: you're in the river, not watching it from a bank. The surrounding Alps are there the whole time, visible from the water in a way they're not from town.
All the equipment comes with the booking — raft, paddle, life jacket, helmet. Pickup happens at your accommodation in the Bled area, so you don't need to figure out how to get to the launch point. In low season there's one departure at 10am; in high season (June, July, August) trips run at 10am, 2pm and 5:30pm. The operator needs at least 4 people to run a trip, so if you're booking solo or as a pair, you'll be grouped with other paddlers. If water levels drop or weather turns dangerous, you get offered an alternative date or a full refund.

Is this one for you?Book this if you want to be active on the water rather than watching from the shore — you're paddling the whole time, not being ferried past scenery. Can my 5-year-old come rafting on the Sava Dolinka?
Yes — the minimum age is 3 years old. Children under 12 must be accompanied by an adult in the boat, so you'll be paddling together.
What's the difference between class II and class III rapids?
The Sava Dolinka runs class II-III whitewater, which means easy to intermediate difficulty. Class II has small waves and clear passages; class III adds bigger waves, rocks to navigate around, and stronger current. Neither requires experience — the guide handles the line through the rapids and you paddle as instructed.
How long am I actually in the water rafting?
About 1.5 hours of the 3-hour trip is spent on the river paddling. The rest covers pickup from your accommodation, the drive to the launch point, and return transport to Bled.
What happens if the water level is too low or the weather is bad?
The operator cancels trips when water levels drop below safe rafting conditions or dangerous weather moves in. You'll be offered an alternative date or a full refund — no charge either way.
Do I need to bring food and water?
Food and drinks are not included in the rafting package, so bring what you need. You'll be wet for the 1.5 hours on the water, so pack a change of clothes and a towel for after.
How many people will be in my raft?
The operator requires at least 4 participants to run a trip. You'll be grouped with other paddlers if you're booking alone or in a small party; the guide will let you know the final group size when you confirm.
