Canyoning Bled: abseil waterfalls in Triglav National Park
Abseil down waterfalls and jump into pools on the Grmecica canyon
Canyoning on the Grmecica canyon near Bled puts you on one of Slovenia's most scenic and dynamic waterways, where you abseil, jump waterfalls, slide down natural chutes and swim through pools over a 3.5-hour outing. A local guide leads groups of up to 8, all gear is provided, and return transfer from Bled is included. Minimum age is 12, minimum height 145 cm, and you need to be a comfortable swimmer with moderate fitness.
The Experience
The Grmecica canyon sits on the edge of Triglav National Park and runs through terrain that shifts between rock faces, cascading water and natural pools. You start with a return transfer from Bled, then move into the canyon itself where the guide walks you through each section—abseiling down waterfalls, jumping into deep pools, and sliding down natural water chutes carved by the river. The canyon is rated moderate, which means the climbing and jumping are real but not extreme; the guide reads the water level and conditions each day and adjusts the route if needed.
All canyoning equipment comes with you: wet suit, neoprene socks, specialized shoes, harness and helmet. The group stays small—a maximum of 8 people per guide—so the pace holds steady and the guide can watch each person through the technical sections. You'll need to bring a swimming suit and towel; the water is cold and you'll be in it for most of the 3.5 hours. The activity involves a moderate amount of walking on uneven surfaces, and everyone in the group has to be able to swim without assistance.
The tour runs in English and operates on a morning or afternoon schedule depending on which option you choose. Weather in the mountains around Bled and the Julian Alps shifts fast, so the operator reserves the right to adjust timing if conditions change, and a minimum of 4 guests is required for the day to run. If the group doesn't fill, you can move to a backup date.

What exactly do I do during the canyoning—is it mostly climbing or mostly water?
The Grmecica canyon combines both: you abseil down waterfalls using ropes and harness, jump into pools from rocks, and slide down natural water chutes. The guide leads you through each section, and the sequence changes depending on water flow and conditions that day.
Do I need to be an experienced climber or swimmer to do this?
No climbing experience is required, but you do need to be a comfortable swimmer and have at least moderate physical fitness. The minimum age is 12 and minimum height is 145 cm; the guide will brief you on every technical move before you do it.
What's included in the price, and what do I need to bring?
All canyoning gear is included—wet suit, shoes, harness, helmet and everything else you need. Bring a swimming suit and towel; food and drinks are not included, so pack snacks if you want them during the 3.5 hours.
How does the transfer work—do I get picked up from my hotel?
Return transfer from Bled is included in the price. The operator will arrange pickup from your location in Bled and bring you back after the canyon activity ends.
What happens if the weather is bad or not enough people sign up?
Weather in the mountains is unpredictable, and the operator reserves the right to adjust the schedule if conditions change. A minimum of 4 guests is required for the tour to run; if that number isn't reached, you can move to a backup date instead.
