Learn Slovak wine from someone who knows it, in the cellar where the best are kept

A wine tasting class in Bratislava held in the historic cellar of the Apponyi Palace, where you taste Slovak wines guided by a professional sommelier in English. The National Collection of Wines showcases the top 100 wines of Slovakia, selected by experts in the country's highest wine competition. You choose your program: 3 samples, 5 samples, or a complete tasting of 80 wines across 100 minutes, sampling from all 6 Slovak wine-growing regions.

The Experience

The tasting happens in the stylish historic cellar of the Museum of Viticulture and Enology inside the Apponyi Palace. A sommelier speaks English and walks you through each wine in terms of what you're actually tasting—the sensory properties that matter, the story of the region it comes from. The National Collection of Wines is unique in Europe: it holds the top 100 Slovak wines, selected by oenologists, sommeliers and winemakers through the National Wine Salon of the Slovak Republic, the country's highest wine competition. You're not tasting random bottles; you're tasting what experts chose.

You pick your program at checkout. The 3-sample option gives you a quick introduction. The 5-sample tasting goes deeper. The complete tasting covers 80 wines across 100 minutes, drawing from all 6 Slovak wine-growing regions—and the sommelier designs it so you taste at your own pace; you don't have to finish every pour. The cellar stays open year-round, and public transport runs nearby if you're coming from elsewhere in Bratislava.

Top questions

What are the three wine tasting options I can choose from?

You can book a 3-sample tasting for a quick introduction, a 5-sample tasting for a deeper look, or the complete tasting of 80 wines across 100 minutes that covers all 6 Slovak wine-growing regions. The sommelier designs the longer program so you taste at your own pace.

What makes the Slovak National Collection of Wines different from other wine museums?

The National Collection is unique in Europe—it holds only the top 100 Slovak wines, selected by experts through the National Wine Salon of the Slovak Republic, the country's highest wine competition. The wines come from all 6 Slovak wine-growing regions and represent the best the country produces.

Will the sommelier explain what I'm tasting?

Yes. The sommelier speaks English and talks about each wine in terms of its sensory properties—what you're actually tasting—and the interest of the wine itself, not just facts about the label.

How long does the tasting take?

The 3 and 5-sample tastings run about 30 minutes. The complete tasting of 80 wines takes 100 minutes, though you set your own pace through the samples.

Where exactly is the tasting held?

The tasting takes place in the historic cellar of the Museum of Viticulture and Enology, located in the Apponyi Palace in Bratislava. Public transportation options are available nearby.

Is there a minimum age requirement?

Yes, you must be at least 18 years old to participate in the wine tasting.
