You meet your guide in Bratislava Old Town and move into a relaxed wine bar where the tasting unfolds. Six Slovak wines arrive in sequence (white, rosé and red varieties from local winemakers) each one introduced by a sommelier and paired with a cheese platter. The wines come from more than fifty grape varieties planted across six Slovak wine regions, some well-known Central European grapes and others found nowhere else. Slovak wines regularly win international competitions, yet almost none are exported. Locals drink what gets made, and visitors rarely know the category exists until they arrive.
