The experience

St Andrews sits on the east coast of Scotland with a history that reaches back around 1,400 years. The tour begins at the Old Course itself, the world's first golf course, where you walk down by the first tee and stop at the Swilcan Bridge on the 17th hole for a photo. After that you have time to explore the town on your own: the ancient cathedral, the third-oldest university in the English-speaking world, and the narrow streets that have stood since the medieval period. The guide leads the way but leaves space for you to wander and take in the place at your own pace.

From St Andrews, the route heads south to Anstruther, a working fishing village where you'll have lunch at one of the award-winning fish & chips restaurants there. The pier is a short walk from the restaurants, so you can stretch your legs and watch the boats if you want. During the snack break on the drive, you'll get Scottish Irn Bru, tea or coffee, and a sweet Scottish-themed treat. Bottled water is provided throughout the day.

The final stop is optional: Kingsbarns whisky and gin distillery, which sits on the Fife coast overlooking the North Sea. If you want to tour the distillery, you'll need to book that in advance and pay separately. It's not part of the base tour price. If you skip it, you can spend more time in St Andrews instead. The whole day runs eight hours, and the air-conditioned vehicle is wheelchair accessible. All areas you'll visit are also accessible.
