The experience

This tour leaves Greenock Cruise Port and heads straight into Scotland's west coast landscape. You'll stop at Loch Lomond and Luss, a village known for slate cottages and views across the water to the mountains. The route climbs to a mountain pass (the highest point on Scotland's west coast road), where the scenery opens up across the valley below. From there the minivan continues to Inveraray Castle, the ancestral seat of the Dukes of Argyll, or to Stirling Castle on Tuesdays and Wednesdays when Inveraray is closed. Entry to whichever castle is included, as is a stop for lunch at a local eatery if you want one.

The vehicle is a Mercedes minivan with air conditioning and space for no more than seven passengers, so the group stays small enough to move through each stop without a crowd. A live guide in English travels with you the whole way, and bottled water is provided. The seven-hour schedule accounts for travel time between stops and the return to the cruise ship, so you're back with time to spare before departure.

What's the difference between Inveraray Castle and Stirling Castle on this tour?

Inveraray Castle is the primary stop: a 15th-century castle with a fairytale exterior and period interior. Stirling Castle, a fortress on a hilltop overlooking the Forth Valley, substitutes on Tuesdays and Wednesdays when Inveraray is closed. Both entries are included in the tour price.

Can I visit Inveraray Jail instead of the castle?

Yes. Inveraray Jail is an award-winning museum housed in a former courthouse and prison, with exhibits on conditions from medieval times through the 19th century. You can choose it over the castle at the same stop, and entry is included.

Is lunch included in the tour price?

Lunch is not included, but the tour stops at Inveraray where you can choose from local restaurants and eateries. You have time to eat before the group continues.

What happens if I have young children?

Infants and small children can travel in a pram or stroller, and specialized infant seats are available in the minivan. The tour is suitable for all physical fitness levels.
