The two sites most visitors come for—Skara Brae and the Ring of Brodgar—sit at the heart of the UNESCO World Heritage site called the Heart of Neolithic Orkney. Skara Brae is the best-preserved Neolithic village in Europe, a lived space revealed by Atlantic storms and explored here through a specialist lens rather than a placard. The Ring of Brodgar is a stone circle and henge on an open ridge, the kind of place where the scale and the silence do most of the talking.
