The experience

The day starts with a drive to Inveraray, where you step out at a castle that's been the seat of the Campbell Clan for centuries. Inveraray Castle itself costs extra to enter (£16), but the grounds and village are yours to wander. You can spend the morning touring the castle rooms, visiting the Woollen Mill, or simply walking the shoreline: the operator builds in time for all three. Lunch happens here too, at a restaurant or café of your choice in the village.

After Inveraray, the route turns north toward Loch Lomond & Trossachs National Park. You'll stop at Luss, a small town on the loch's banks where Luss Parish Church sits among the trees. The churchyard holds the grave of a Viking. From there, weather and schedule permitting, you can take an optional one-hour cruise on Loch Lomond itself, watching the water and the mountains. The guide stays with you throughout, and Scottish snacks and a dram of whisky are included in the price.

Pickup is included from Glasgow, and the tour runs eight hours total. The start time can be adjusted if you need a different departure. Just let the operator know when you book.
