The drive out to Riyadh's Edge of the World takes you past the city into something else entirely.

You're driven out to Riyadh's Edge of the World in a 4x4, hike the cliffs for an hour, do 30 minutes of off-road driving, and visit a camel farm. If weather permits, you'll stay for stargazing once the sun drops. Water is provided, and a guide is on-site to answer questions about the fossils and geology. The whole experience runs 4.5 hours from pickup, or longer if you add dinner.

The Experience

You're picked up at 2pm and driven out in a 4x4 with air conditioning — the kind of vehicle you need once the road stops being a road. The driver takes you to the site and points you toward where to go, but you're free to walk at your own pace. There's a guide on-site if you want to ask about the geology, the marine fossils embedded in the cliffs, or why the whole place feels like the ground just dropped away. The landscape is the kind of thing that doesn't photograph the way it looks in person — the cliffs are higher than you expect, the desert stretches further, and the silence is actual silence.

The hike itself is about an hour, nothing technical, just walking through the terrain and taking in the scale of it. After that comes the off-road driving — 30 minutes of the 4x4 doing what it's built for, moving across ground that isn't flat or predictable. You'll stop at a camel farm on the way, which breaks up the day and gives you a different kind of encounter with the landscape. Bottled water is included, which matters when you're out there. If the weather cooperates, stargazing happens once the sun goes down — the light pollution from the city doesn't reach this far out, so the sky actually has depth to it.

The whole thing runs until 6:30pm if you skip dinner, or 8:30pm if you add it.
