The experience
The day starts with hotel pickup from Bucharest and a drive into the Carpathians. Once you arrive in Azuga, an English-speaking guide walks you through how to operate a snowmobile (how to steer, brake and handle the machine on snow), before you set out. Then you ride through forest roads all the way to the top of the mountain, moving at your own pace through the snow.
After the ride, you have lunch in Azuga near the ski slope and free time until 3 p.m. If you want to try skiing or snowboarding, the slope and ski lift are there. If you'd rather rest, you can stay in the resort. Either way, you're back at your Bucharest hotel by the end of the afternoon.
Bring your passport. You'll need it to rent the snowmobile. The rental fee (80€ per hour, cash only) is separate from the tour price. One snowmobile seats two people, so you can ride solo or share the machine with a travel companion. The activity runs from November through April depending on snow depth.

Is this one for you?The ride itself is what you do (you control the snowmobile through the forest and up the mountain), so this suits anyone who wants to handle the machine rather than watch from a passenger seat. The 10-hour day includes a long drive each way from Bucharest, so it works best if you're willing to spend most of the day traveling and riding.
