The experience

The tour picks you up at Doha Airport and drops you back in time for your next flight. The timing is built around your arrival and departure. You travel in a comfortable air-conditioned vehicle with a live English-speaking guide who navigates the stops and explains what you're seeing. The route follows the waterfront Corniche, then moves inland to Katara Cultural Village, where theatres, concert halls and exhibition galleries sit alongside traditional architecture, and ends at Souq Waqif, the sprawling traditional marketplace in the old quarter.

Souq Waqif is a maze of small shops selling spices, perfumes, jewellery, clothing and handicrafts, with traditional music and cultural performances adding to the atmosphere. The stalls and alleyways fill with activity at night, and the souq has restaurants and cafes where you can pause if the schedule allows. Katara Cultural Village, Qatar's largest cultural project, brings together theatres, concert halls and galleries designed to showcase world cultures and contemporary art in one compound.

The tour also passes the State Grand Mosque, a contemporary structure with traditional Qatari design opened to the public in 2011, and The Pearl-Qatar, a man-made island development covering 400 hectares with a Riviera-style layout. Bottled water, coffee and tea come with the tour. The minimum age is 12.
