The Experience

The first thing I noticed was how the city faded fast—one minute we were passing MIA Park, then suddenly it was all sand and this weird, quiet brightness. Our driver, Khaled, had this way of humming along to the radio while weaving through traffic (I don’t think I’ll ever get used to Qatari driving). By the time we reached Mesaieed, about 40 minutes south of Doha, it felt like another planet. The air tasted dry and sharp. There’s this silence out there that’s not really silent: wind hissing past your helmet, distant engines buzzing from other riders.
