The experience
You start at the dock with a certified USCG captain and board a pontoon boat built for comfort and stability in shallow water. After a safety briefing, you cruise to a cay in waist-deep, crystal-clear water where snorkeling happens in the gentle current, no exertion needed. Carlos Alexis guides you through the channels in silicone gear while sunlight still filters through the mangroves, then leads you back to the boat as the sun dips below the horizon.
As night falls, the boat drifts into Papayo Cove. Carlos begins with a briefing on the dinoflagellates (the bioluminescent organisms that light up when disturbed), then leads you into water that looks dark until movement makes it glow. He teaches you how to trigger the full brightness, then guides you under the boat's deck where the glow intensifies. Once you're comfortable, he surfaces and becomes your filmmaker, capturing the encounter using a Sony ZV-E1 AI camera system. The footage is backed up that night and professionally edited into a keepsake video delivered within days.
Back on shore, you change into dry clothes and sit down to warm, locally inspired dinner reserved just for your group. The return drive to your hotel is quiet. The professionally edited video of your swim arrives in a few days. The experience spans nine towns across the island, so you see the landscape shift as you travel.

Yes. The cay's waist-deep, crystal-clear water and hypoallergenic silicone gear are designed for non-swimmers, toddlers, and seniors. Carlos Alexis guides you through every step and keeps you safe and secure throughout.
What happens if the bioluminescent bay doesn't glow on the night I go?
The dinoflagellates glow when water is disturbed, and Carlos teaches you how to trigger the full brightness. The video capture is a bonus when conditions allow it, so the glow and the footage depend on weather and water conditions that night.

Will I get a video of my bioluminescent swim?
Carlos captures your interaction with the dinoflagellates using a Sony ZV-E1 AI camera system when conditions allow. The footage is professionally edited and delivered to you within a few days as a keepsake of the experience.
What's included in the snorkeling part of the day?
Snorkeling gear made of hypoallergenic silicone is provided. You explore the cay's channels and surroundings in waist-deep water while the sun is still up. Sodas and water are available throughout the day.
