The Experience
If you've got an afternoon free in San Juan or you've been before and want to see past the standard resort loop, this tour builds around what locals actually do. The driver and guide pick you up and start in the newer parts of the city—Calle Loiza, where the restaurants and bars cluster; Calle Cerra, where murals cover entire buildings; and La Placita de Santurce, a market square that shifts into nightlife after dark. These are the neighborhoods that don't show up in most guidebooks.
From there the route swings through Ocean Park and Condado, the beach areas everyone knows exist, then moves into Old San Juan proper. You'll see El Morro, the fortress that anchors the colonial quarter; La Perla, the neighborhood where the Despacito video was shot; and the Capitol Building. The guide is licensed and speaks English or Spanish, and the vehicle stays air-conditioned the whole way. Bottled water is included.
The whole thing runs two hours. Pickup is included in the price, though if you're staying outside the San Juan area there's an additional fee for that leg. Infants under two book an infant ticket; everyone else books as an adult. Strollers work fine if you're traveling with small children, and service animals are welcome.
