The Experience

The first thing I noticed was how salty the air tasted—maybe nerves made it sharper. We were standing under this faded pavilion in Rincon, getting our briefing from Luis, who’s lived here his whole life. He handed out fins and masks and asked about shoe sizes (I panicked for a second—do I say US or EU size?).
