The experience
The cave itself is the habitat of an important bat population, and your guide will explain why the Taino people considered caves sacred. You'll wear a helmet and lamp to walk the underground passages, see stalactites and stalagmites formed through limestone over time, and observe petroglyphs carved into the walls. The guide (a certified biologist or interpreter) covers how the cave formed, the ecology of the Karst forest you walk through to reach it, and the cultural significance of the site before you ever enter.
After the cave, you'll move to a spring of crystal-clear water where you can swim and cool off, then return to the vehicle for lunch before heading to a beach for a final swim. The whole day runs about eight hours from pickup at the meeting point, with the drive to the cave taking roughly an hour each way. You get water and snacks throughout, and all the protective gear you need for the underground section.
Three options exist at checkout: the full day with cave, spring and beach; a half-day version focused on the cave and spring; or the same tour without transportation if you're arranging your own way there. Children are welcome from age seven, though the tour requires at least moderate fitness and involves walking, climbing and time underground.

Is this one for you?The full eight-hour day suits travelers who want to combine underground exploration with water time and aren't pressed for time. If you have only a few hours, the half-day option covers the cave and spring. Moderate fitness is required because of the forest walk and cave passages, so this works best for active travelers comfortable with climbing and time underground.
