The experience

The tour starts with pickup at your hotel in a 4x4 vehicle built to reach places a standard car cannot. You head into the Serra d'Arga, one of the Alto Minho's most emblematic mountain ranges, known for wild landscapes at its peaks and deep natural value. The route passes through the Serra de Santa Luzia, where you stop at one of the most celebrated viewpoints in Portugal (the Senhora do Minho overlook at the ridge's highest point), and takes in the Minho River, sea and mountain all visible at once.

The day centers on the natural lagoons and waterfalls that feed down the mountain slopes. You stop to swim in them, refreshing yourself in water that flows directly from the peaks. Between the water stops, you walk through three villages built into the Serra d'Arga itself, each one rural and built in traditional style, where you see how people live on the mountain. You also visit the Santa Luzia Monastery at Monte de Santa Luzia and the São João d'Arga Monastery, both set high on the ridges. Lunch is a meal of local food, eaten during the day.

The guide photographs and films you throughout, and you receive the photos and video at the end. Insurance is included. The vehicle is private to your group, so the pace and the stops are yours alone: no shared departures, no fixed schedule beyond the nine-hour window. Children from age two are welcome, and the tour suits all fitness levels, though it is not recommended for anyone with spinal injuries.
