Rough terrain, real obstacles, behind the wheel of a buggy.

Self-drive a buggy through Porto's most demanding landscape, passing Rally de Portugal shakedown sections and the abandoned Castromil gold mines. The experience runs about an hour, includes a professional guide in your choice of language, protective gear and a safety briefing, and you operate the vehicle the entire time, not a passenger ride.

Step-by-step itinerary

Extreme buggy tour in Northern Portugal

  • Drive through rally shakedown
  • Pass old gold mines of Castromil

The experience

You get behind the wheel of a 2 or 4-seater buggy and drive it yourself through terrain rough enough to host Portugal's national rally. The route passes through two sections of the Rally de Portugal shakedown, where the real racers test their lines, then moves into the landscape around the old gold mines of Castromil. A professional guide rides with you, briefing you on safety rules before you start and staying with you through the obstacles.

The hour covers a lot of ground (varied obstacles, steep sections, uneven surfaces), and the adrenaline comes from overcoming them yourself, not from watching someone else drive. You wear protective goggles throughout. The guide speaks English, Spanish, Portuguese or French, depending on what you book. Public transport options exist nearby if you need them to reach the starting point.

Top questions

What languages is the tour guided in?

Live guide in English, Spanish, French and Portuguese.

What happens if it rains?

It may be canceled due to bad weather. If that happens, you're offered another date or a refund. Free cancellation up to 24 h before the start.

Can I choose between a 2-seater and a 4-seater buggy?

Yes. The 2-seater seats you and the guide. The 4-seater lets you bring a passenger along with the guide. You pick which one at checkout.

What happens during the safety briefing?

The guide covers the safety rules before you drive, so you know what to expect on the terrain and how to handle the obstacles ahead.

Do I need experience driving a buggy?

No. The briefing prepares you, and the guide is with you the whole time. The activity suits all physical fitness levels.

What are the Rally de Portugal shakedown sections?

They're the test routes where Portugal's national rally drivers practice before the actual race. Your buggy passes through two of these sections, so you're driving on the same terrain the professionals use.

Where are the old gold mines of Castromil?

Castromil is a small area within Porto's landscape where gold mining once took place. The route passes through this historic site as part of the terrain you drive.
