The experience

What does it take to climb your first real boulder? You start at Penedo da Amizade in the Serra de Sintra Natural Park, a mythical climbing site where the instruction begins on the ground. Your guide (speaking English, Spanish or Portuguese) walks you through the basics: how to use the harness, how the rope works, how to read the rock. Then you climb. The boulder itself is the teacher, and the 4-hour session gives you time to work through the movements, try different routes on the same rock, and feel what your body can do when you commit to it.

The Serra de Sintra is extraordinary partly because it sits so close to Lisbon, just 30 minutes away, yet feels completely removed from the city. The park's nooks and crannies are what make it a real climbing destination, not a tourist overlay. Bottled water, helmet, rope and harness are all provided. You bring the willingness to test your limits.
