The experience

The first thing that hit me was the clatter: forks on plates, someone shouting across the room in Portuguese, the low hum of people who know each other well. Our guide, Joana, waved us into this little tasca near Mercado do Bolhão. I could smell fried cod and something vinegary before we even sat down.
